AI-powered WhatsApp agent bridging the financial documentation gap for street food vendors across Latin America
CreceAI is a WhatsApp AI agent built specifically for street food vendors — the vendedores ambulantes who feed millions of people every day across Latin America yet remain completely invisible to the formal financial system.
The core problem we're solving is not just poverty — it's the absence of financial data. Street vendors have no income records, no expense logs, no financial history. Without data, there are no loans. Without loans, there is no growth. Without growth, survival mode never ends.
CreceAI sits inside WhatsApp — the app already on every vendor's phone — and helps them build their financial story, one conversation at a time. Every sale logged, every expense tracked, every pattern identified becomes a piece of data that didn't exist before.

“You can't improve what you can't measure.”
— the principle behind every decision we made
Our unique selling point is simple but radical: financial data, built from scratch, through conversation. No spreadsheets. No formal accounting. Just a WhatsApp chat that quietly turns daily transactions into a structured financial record.
This data is not just useful for the vendor — it is the foundation of everything else. Access to credit, business planning, growth tracking, and eventually formalization all require one thing first: proof that a business exists and operates. CreceAI creates that proof.
$1.65 trillion in Latin American economic activity operates informally¹ — that's 33% of the region's GDP completely invisible to governments and banks. Street vendors face daily barriers: no financial records means no business loans, bureaucracy blocks formalization, and this massive informal economy remains trapped in survival mode instead of generating regional growth.
Post-COVID digital acceleration created a $2.6B fintech boom⁵ in Latin America, but 3,069 startups⁶ focus on formal banking. Meanwhile, 92% WhatsApp adoption⁷ gives us direct access to informal workers — yet no one has built for them.

How we went from a broad vision to a focused, validated product
We started with an ambitious, two-part product: a financial tracker combined with a RAG-powered memory system that gave vendors on-demand access to legal documentation for formalizing their businesses.
The logic seemed airtight. Informality is a problem. Formalization is the solution. Give vendors the tools to manage their money and the knowledge to go legal. Kill two birds with one stone.
Initial product concept:
Before building, we went to the streets — literally. We conducted 40+ in-depth interviewswith street food vendors in Peru, asking about their daily realities, their fears, their goals, and what would actually make their lives better.

Peru — where we conducted our field research and first deployments
What we heard was not what we expected.
“Formalizarme? Eso es lo último en mi mente. Primero necesito saber si puedo pagar el almuerzo de mis hijos hoy.”
— Vendor, Lima
“Si me registro, me vienen a cobrar impuestos. Y yo no tengo ni para terminar el mes.”
— Vendor, Lima
The interviews shattered our assumptions. Business formalization was not on vendors' minds at all. Two things dominated every conversation:
The overwhelming priority was making enough money to close the day with something left. Not growth. Not loans. Not registrations. Just surviving today.
Many vendors actively feared going formal. Taxes, inspections, fees — registering their business felt like a threat, not an opportunity.
The RAG system for legal documentation? Solving a problem nobody had asked us to solve. We had been designing for our assumptions, not for their reality.
We stripped the product back to its core: financial management only. No legal docs, no formalization guidance — just a frictionless way to track income, expenses, and build the financial awareness that vendors never had access to.
Before
After
Focusing on financial management was not a retreat from our original ambition — it was the smarter path to it. Here is the thinking:
A vendor who is worried about surviving today cannot think about tomorrow. A vendor who knows their numbers, tracks their progress, and feels financially stable for the first time — that vendor can start asking “what's next?”
Financial tracking
Financial stability
Credit access
Business formalization
Financial management is not just one feature — it is the prerequisite for everything else we originally wanted to build. Formalization, credit, growth — all of it becomes possible once a vendor has data, awareness, and breathing room. We decided to nail that foundation first.
CreceAI leverages the ubiquity of WhatsApp in Latin America to deliver an AI agent that helps informal workers log income, track expenses, and understand their financial patterns — all through natural conversation, in Spanish, with zero onboarding required.
Python web framework — exposes a single endpoint POST /whatsapp-endpoint
ASGI server that runs FastAPI inside Docker
Containerizes the entire application for consistent deployment
Stores and retrieves per-user conversation history
Generates responses using system prompt + conversation history
WhatsApp Business API — receives and sends messages
User sends a WhatsApp message
Twilio receives it and forwards it to your /whatsapp-endpoint via HTTP POST
FastAPI processes the request — extracts the phone number and message
Redis fetches the conversation history for that user
OpenAI GPT-4o generates a response using the system prompt + history
Redis saves the updated conversation history
Twilio sends the GPT response back to the user's WhatsApp
